The ‘Kel Strong’ Scholarship

The 'Kel Strong' Scholarship, established in partnership with TIRR Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation and The Memorial Hermann Foundation, seeks applicants who exemplify qualities of perseverance, hard work, faith, and determination. The scholarship aims to provide financial assistance with their recovery journey and inspire recipients to pursue their educational and career aspirations. A record number of eight TIRR Memorial Hermann patients are receiving rehabilitation scholarships to help offset the cost of therapy, thanks to former patient Kel Mabatah, whose own recovery journey at TIRR Memorial Hermann inspired him to give back. Through the 'Kel Strong' Mabatah Foundation, eight scholarships totaling $56,920 have been awarded to support patients as they continue their recovery and rehabilitation at TIRR Memorial Hermann.

“TIRR Memorial Hermann played a critical role in my recovery, and I know firsthand how life-changing access to therapy can be,” said Kel Mabatah, Founder of the 'Kel Strong' Mabatah Foundation. “These rehab scholarships are about restoring hope, dignity, and momentum for individuals who are fighting every day to rebuild their lives. If my journey can help someone else keep going, then this is exactly what this foundation was created to do.”

Three TIRR Memorial Hermann patients are receiving scholarships to help cover costs of therapy, thanks to former patient, Kel Mabatah, whose recovery journey at TIRR Memorial Hermann inspired him to give back to help others. The ‘Kel Strong’ Mabatah Foundation funded three scholarships of $7,500 each to help cover 15 therapy sessions at TIRR Memorial Hermann.

Class of 2023

Kel Mabatah, the Founder of The 'Kel Strong' Mabatah Foundation and a current patient at TIRR Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation, is giving back to fellow traumatic brain injury survivors. The foundation awarded an impressive total of $30,000 in funding to support therapy sessions and services for patients continuing their recoveries. On June 28th, 2023, FOUR scholarships of $7,500 each were granted to recipients selected by a committee at TIRR Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation. These individuals demonstrated ongoing needs due to limited insurance or resources.
