Stories of Strength and Resilience

Each recipient of The ‘Kel Strong’ Rehab Scholarship represents perseverance, resilience, and hope. Through financial support and continued rehabilitation, these individuals are rewriting their stories one step at a time.

Why The 'Kel Strong' Rehab Scholarship Exists

After surviving a traumatic brain injury, Kel Mabatah experienced firsthand how difficult the recovery journey can be. While rehabilitation creates opportunities for progress, many individuals face financial barriers once insurance coverage ends, if coverage is denied, or if they lack insurance altogether. To help bridge that gap, the 'Kel Strong' Rehab Scholarship was created in partnership with TIRR Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation and the Memorial Hermann Foundation.

Since 2020, the foundation has rasied more than $350,000 to help individuals impacted by traumatic brain injury, helping cover therapy, and provide medial equipment that keeps recovery moving forward.

Continuing The Journey

Recovery from a traumatic brain injury often requires months or years of dedication, therapy, and support. Each year, scholarship recipients are selected based on their resilience, determination, and commitment to continuing their recovery journey. Whether rebuilding strength, improving communication skills, or working toward greater independence, every recipient shares a common goal: moving forward.

Most recently, eight scholarships were awarded to TIRR Memorial Hermann patients totaling $56,920 to support additional therapy sessions, helping them take the next step in their recovery and continue building toward a brighter future.
